Target, facing a boycott over its policy of allowing transgender customers and employees to use the bathroom of their choice, says it will spend $20 million to expand bathroom options at all of its U.S. stores.
As a result of the boycott, Target saw a 7.2% drop in sales compared to a year ago, along with further sales declines now predicted for later this year. In spite of this sales decline, Target spokesman Cathy Smith denies that the boycott of Target stores had any significant effect on their sales.
Target Blames Global Warming
In a Wall Street Journal interview, Target CEO Brian Cornell pegged the downturn in the company’s fortunes to the cold weather as opposed to anything the company itself is doing or not doing.
“It was a very wet and cold start to the year and it’s reflected in our sales,” Cornell told the paper. “We haven’t seen anything from a structural standpoint that gives us pause.” In other words, the weather is responsible for the downturn, not Target’s “structural” transgender bathroom policy. Indeed, a month after the initial announcement, the Target CEO came out to double down on the transgender agenda, so it appears the company is digging in heels instead of looking for ways to appeal to common sense.
Target's Katie Boylan stated, "At the end of the day, Target is all about inclusion. We want everyone to feel comfortable in our stores."
Boylan noted that out of 1,800 U.S. Target stores, all but 300 already have single occupancy bathrooms, and the vast majority of those should offer new bathrooms by the end of the year.
What Target perceives as a solution, however, doesn't address their policy of allowing men to go into women's dressing rooms or the women's bathrooms.
Last month, a man named Sean Smith who identifies as a woman was charged with one felony count of video voyeurism for reportedly using his iPhone to record an 18-year-old girl undressing at an Idaho Target store.
The American Family Association has led the large-scale boycott against Target, gathering close to 1.4 million signatures in a petition urging Target to reverse its controversial bathroom policy. Target has refused to change its controversial policy, so they are spending 20 million dollars to hopefully slow the financial bleeding that they caused. I guess Target finally figured out which side was buttering their bread--and it ain't the .003% either.
The conservative group had warned that the policy "is exactly how sexual predators get access to their victims. And with Target publicly boasting that men can now enter women's bathrooms, where do you think predators are going to go?" it asked. It had further warned that Target's policy "poses a danger to wives and daughters."
As is usually the case with progressive ideologues, people who object to their liberal ideas--on the basis of their biblical worldview--are labeled "intolerant."
Who is intolerant? I'd say the intolerant ones are the ones who demand society push aside its norms so THEY can be treated "special." People trying to change their God-given gender need to be getting psychiatric treatment instead of being treated as some special "minority."
"Although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor gave thanks to Him, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" (Romans 1:21-22).
