“We are failing Black students in the name of diversity.”
Pastor John Amanchukwu torched a North Carolina school board's equity initiative during a meeting earlier this month, arguing that the district's priorities are misplaced as he pointed to declining performance across the spectrum.
"We're wasting taxpayer dollars putting money toward this diversity office that's not benefiting those who need it the most," he said.
Amanchukwu added that a majority of Wake (woke?) county's Black students are also not proficient in reading and slammed the school board for claiming to champion Black students while depriving them of opportunities for success.
"If they're not reading on grade level, they're not performing mathematically, then they're not going to be able to get jobs in the field, but we're wasting money on a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office while we are failing Black students in the name of diversity," he said.
"As we talk about inclusion and making sure that the trans student feels comfortable, and the queer student feels comfortable, what does that have to do with reading, writing and arithmetic?" he asked the board.
Amanchukwu lambasted the diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives as "cultural Marxism" and ways to "groom" children during the meeting.
"As a resident of Wake County for the past 30+ plus years, after hearing about the failed test scores of all students, in particular black students, along with the intentional politicization of the classroom, I thought it necessary to attend the school board meeting and fight back against the cultural Marxism, critical race theory, gender theory, and queer theory that is dominating Wake County Public School System and many other schools around the country," he told Fox News Digital on Wednesday.
"While Whites are being demonized for whiteness, and Blacks are made to feel as if they are inferior or victims (CRT), tax dollars are being wasted on a diversity office, while blacks, the group they claim to protect/support, are declining academically. Wake County has become ‘Woke County’ and the intentional indoctrination of our children has become the school system's chief goal, to the detriment of all students," he continued.
Many parents and guests sided with Amanchukwu, including Wake County Moms for Liberty chairman Julie Page.
"Is the school system supposed to teach facts or feelings?" she asked during the school board meeting. "Instead of focusing on educating children, this school board seems hell-bent on being a trendy boutique for the far-left radical extremist socialist movements."
Our Commentary
Pastor John Amanchukwu is correct.
Just a few decades after a majority of Americans accepted the civil-rights movement’s argument for equality—based in equal treatment rather than equal outcomes—they have been told that their efforts have been for naught. Equality of opportunity is now considered insufficient by the woke left. Equity, similar-sounding enough to ride equality’s coattails, admits that liberals want what conservatives have long been reassured they do not: radical equality of outcomes, as defined by liberals, of course — who seek to keep people in perpetual childhood.
We are clearly living in Orwellian times, when the ambitions of tyrannical power are camouflaged by debased language, incoherent thought, and patent double-standards. Like the Newspeak of 1984, our progressive media abuses words like “diversity” and “free speech” to make them mean their opposites: a uniform orthodoxy protected and enforced by censorship. This abuse of language and true diversity of thought is the enemy of freedom and the precursor of a tyranny that reduces diversity of opinion and ideas into one monolithic, oppressive dogma. If you don’t go along with the godless leftist narrative, you are marked for ostracism, an enemy of the critical theory revolution.
True diversity – the diversity of thought and opinion – is intimately connected to free speech, itself one of the most critical foundations of human freedom, and most important bulwarks against tyranny. But this kind of diversity is a threat to the office of diversity equity and inclusion, whose chief ambition is forcing the will of 2% of the country on the remaining 98%. I call it the moral minority, and it is anything but moral, as defined in the Bible.
The tyranny of moral minorities uses an assembly line of victimhood to assert their right to absolute power. It’s getting increasingly hard to disguise the fact that leftist revolutions aren’t about liberating the majority, but about enslaving it to the cultural obsessions of a tiny minority. Even its familiar prescriptions of social welfare are centered around the preoccupations of its coalition with green energy nuttery, racial equity supremacy, and gender and transgender politics. The black nationalists get slavery reparations and police defunding while men who wear dresses get to be on the women’s swim team. Feminists get abortion until the last nanosecond of birth and environmentalists can have the EPA regulate backyard puddles. And hipster remote workers can make everyone wear masks.
The moral minorities aren’t out to liberate anyone, including themselves, but to force everyone to use the words they want, to eat and dress like them, and to live like them.
There’s a leftist term for that, it isn’t revolution or liberation: it’s colonialism. When 2% of the country gets to tell everyone else how to live, that’s true oppression.
If the woke office of diversity, equity and inclusion was ordered as diversity, inclusion, and equity, the resulting acronym would be more reflective of the real world.
Pastor John Amanchukwu is correct. Be like John.
