Andrea Luxton, president of Andrews University, announced her retirement, effective June 2023, during her Andrews University Board briefing on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
The university was established in 1874 as Battle Creek College in Battle Creek, Michigan. It then moved to Berrien Springs, Michigan, in 1901 as Emmanuel Missionary College, and became Andrews University in 1960.
As the first female president of Andrews, Luxton counts hiring a vice president of diversity & inclusion as one of her major accomplishments at the University. She also participated in the anti-racist (woke) book venture Campus Uprisings: How Student Activists and Collegiate Leaders Resist Racism and Create Hope.
According to Artur Stele, chairman of the board of trustees, a search to replace her will begin immediately. A small number of potential candidates will be interviewed in January and a selection made in March.
