Second Petition Letter: Please Intervene To Stop The Proposed Lifting of The Ban of the Wearing of Jewelry at Oakwood University!
To President of the General Conference (Ted Wilson) and the North American Division (G Alexander Bryant),
We just read the recent social media petition addressed to the leadership of Oakwood University on the proposed lifting of the ban of the wearing of jewelry on the campus and we are petitioning you to intervene to put this to a stop. Based on the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy counsels, the wearing of jewelry is contrary to the word of God and it should not be worn by Christians. This is MORE than a policy issue, THIS IS A BIBLICAL ISSUE where the standards of dress in regard to the wearing of jewelry are based on. These biblical principles are clearly expressed in our denominational policies—which should control how our institutions are governed on this matter.
“Jewelry: Students should not wear ornamental jewelry of any kind (chains, bracelets, earrings, tongue and toe rings, or nose rings).”
We petition you leaders because you are responsible in making sure that our schools including Oakwood University comply to biblical principles regardless of proposals to change what God has already established. We ask you to intervene and put a stop to this proposed compromise at Oakwood. We love Oakwood and we believe that this misstep will create a slippery slope that it may not be able to recover from.
Sincerely,
Additional concerned Oakwood alumni and SDA members from around the world,
