The opening ceremonies to the Paris Olympic Games included a living tableau reproducing Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting, “The Last Supper,” which depicts Christ and His disciples at their last meal before the crucifixion. (Mat. 26:17-30) In case anyone missed the reference, here is a direct, side-by-side comparison:
The director of the opening ceremonies is a homosexual French theatrical director named Thomas Jolly, who told British Vogue:
… there is “room for everyone in Paris. Maybe it’s a little chaotic, it’s true, but that allows everyone to find a place for themselves.” The opening ceremony will be a success, Jolly says, “if everyone feels represented in it.”
But it should not necessary, in order for the LGBTQ+ people to feel represented, to mock and ridicule Christianity’s most sacred stories. This was not queer inclusion, it was a vicious attack on Christianity. It was an unwashed thumb in the eye, as Gerry likes to say, of hundreds of millions of Christians the world over.
Does this remind you of anything? It should remind an Adventist of Ellen White’s discussion, in Great Controversy pp 275-276:
After France had renounced the worship of the living God . . . it was only a little time till she descended to degrading idolatry, by the worship of the Goddess of Reason, in the person of a profligate woman. And this in the representative assembly of the nation, and by its highest civil and legislative authorities! Says the historian: “One of the ceremonies of this insane time stands unrivaled for absurdity combined with impiety. The doors of the Convention were thrown open to a band of musicians, preceded by whom, the members of the municipal body entered in solemn procession, singing a hymn in praise of liberty, and escorting, as the object of their future worship, a veiled female, whom they termed the Goddess of Reason. Being brought within the bar, she was unveiled with great form, and placed on the right of the president, when she was generally recognized as a dancing girl of the opera . . . “The goddess, after being embraced by the president, was mounted on a magnificent car, and conducted, amid an immense crowd, to the cathedral of Notre Dame, to take the place of the Deity. There she was elevated on the high altar, and received the adoration of all present.”—Alison, vol. 1, ch. 10.
We see that the ideology of the French Revolution, characterized in Scripture (Rev. 11:7-9) as “Sodom and Egypt”—sexual rebellion and perversity, and atheism and government-sanctioned attacks on Christianity—is still the ruling ideology of France. And not only of France but of the United States, the European Union, NATO, Klaus Schwaub and the World Economic Forum (Davos), and pretty much every global corporation and NGO.
The Olympic opening ceremonies specifically embraced France’s revolutionary history; a decapitated Marie Antoinette stood in a window of the Conciergerie, a revolutionary-era prison where the real Marie Antoineete was held for a time before being guillotined during the terror. Thus, the France of 2024 embraces not only the ideology of the revolution, but even its violent, terroristic excesses.
A French politician named Marion Maréchal tweeted:
“To all the Christians of the world who are watching the #Paris2024 ceremony and felt insulted by the this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that is speaking but a left-wing minority ready for any provocation.”
There is always a militant minority of Leftist thugs willing to commit provocations, preliminary to atrocities, but much of the blame lies with the lazy, complacent majority of Christians—Roman Catholics, Baptists, Seventh-day Adventists—who won’t dirty their hands with the necessary business of maintaining a decent, orderly society where it is possible to raise children to follow Christ. So that “small minority” of Leftist thugs always ends up running everything that matters, including things like Olympic opening ceremony organizing committees.
Could the drag queens get away with an internationally televised blasphemy against Islam? To ask that question is to laugh. As Rod Dreher writes:
If the Paris elites had chosen to mock Islam in a similar way, Paris would be burning now. They know that. We all know that. They also know that Christians will not respond at all. . . . All over France today, arsonists are burning down churches. Mosques are going up in France at the same rate that churches are coming down. And yet, the contemptible elites who rule France stage this kind of blasphemous spectacle, attacking the ancestral faith of France, and what Christians still remain there.
What this tells us is that the “deadly wound” has not healed. We know that revolutionary France inflicted a deadly wound on the papacy in 1798, when the pope was arrested and died in captivity. (Rev. 13:3) That deadly wound has not yet healed: the papacy does not have the power to prevent itself from being mocked and viciously ridiculed in the highest profile international forum the world affords today—an opening ceremony of an Olympic Games. Oddly enough, Islam, in alliance with the Revelation 11 Left, has that power; everyone acknowledges that Islam must be respected. But the Roman Catholic Church still lacks that power, even—or perhaps especially—in the one country that, before 1789, was the papacy’s greatest stronghold.
UPDATE: The satire site Babylon Bee sees the connection between Sodom and Gomorrah and what is happening in Paris. Bible prophecy correctly interpreted always has a surfeit of symbolism.
“Their bodies will lie in the public square of the great city—which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt” Rev. 11:8
