Those looking for something positive during the prolonged shutdowns caused by the Wuhan Flu, can find good news in the cancelled gay pride marches in San Francisco and New York City.
SAN FRANCISCO—For the first time in 50 years, San Francisco has cancelled its infamous Pride parade this summer, due to the coronavirus.
There will be no march along the city’s Market Street, no rainbow-clad carousers celebrating the LGBTQ community, no outdoor concerts or drag shows. The event had been scheduled for 27 and 28 June.
“This was not a decision we arrived at lightly – we are sincerely heartbroken”, said Fred Lopez, the executive director.
State Sen. Scott Wiener (D) praised San Francisco Pride organizers for making the “tough decision.”
“I have no doubt that SF Pride will put together a terrific slate of virtual events for this year’s celebration,” said Wiener. “Pride is my favorite part of every year, and though it’s disappointing that we can’t be together in person, we will find creative ways to uplift and celebrate the LGBTQ community.”
NEW YORK—New York City is also cancelling the WorldPride parade and associated Gay Pride events in June for the first time in history, organizers and Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday, just days after San Francisco announced that its gay parade would also be cancelled.
It is our prayer that the absence of these pride celebrations will provide opportunities for people to humble themselves, repent, and seek truth in the Word of God which gives us these encouraging words,
“And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11).
