“We are not doing the will of God if we sit in quietude, doing nothing to preserve liberty of conscience. Fervent, effectual prayer should be ascending to heaven that this calamity may be deferred until we can accomplish the work which has so long been neglected. Let there be most earnest prayer and then let us work in harmony with our prayers” — Ellen G. White. Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 714
The Time to Pray is Now
Our world is rapidly approaching the fulfillment of Revelation 13. Personal liberties, freedom of speech, freedom of peaceful assembly, and freedom to travel have disappeared in countries around the world in just a few short months. Disease continues to claim lives, many of whom do not know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
Bible prophecy predicts these kinds of events shortly before Jesus Christ’s Second Coming. Are we as a people ready for the stupendous crisis that is fast approaching? The most solemn warning ever entrusted to mortals has been given to us. We must be prepared, spiritually and intellectually, to share with others the only message that can bring peace, hope, and salvation.
Will you join Seventh-day Adventists around the world and commit to 31 days of prayer and fasting for our families, our church, and our world? Participants will receive an email each day in October with Bible and Spirit of Prophecy guidance on effective prayer, and a link to a virtual worldwide prayer meeting on Friday, October 29. Jesus is coming soon! May we all be prepared to meet Him.
What We Are Praying For?
In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God promised King Solomon, “If my people, which are called by me name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” During the month of October we are claiming this Bible promise, and many others like it, as we pray specifically for the following seven things.
1. THAT GOD WILL LEAD HIS PEOPLE INTO TRUE REPENTANCE FOR SIN.
John the Baptist and Jesus Christ both began their ministries with a call to repentance. This is the first step in claiming God’s promises and in preparation for the coming crisis.
2. THAT OUR CHILDREN MAY BE PREPARED TO STAND ALONE FOR TRUTH.
Many of the Bible’s greatest heroes, such as Joseph, Moses, Esther, and Daniel, were separated from their parents early in life, and chose on their own to remain faithful to God. God’s children today need the same courage and commitment.
3. THAT OUR LOCAL CHURCHES MAY EXPERIENCE BIBLICAL UNITY.
Jesus said that a house divided cannot stand. Our local churches must pray and work for biblical unity. God is looking for spiritually safe places to bring the other members of His flock into.
4. THAT GOD WILL LEAD TRUTH SEEKERS TO OUR LOCAL CHURCHES.
Thousands of people around the world are being led to Bible truth through their own study, through friendships, through dreams, and through online media evangelism. Pray for divine appointments and the Holy Spirit’s leading to guide them to our churches.
5. THAT GOD WILL GUIDE CHURCH LEADERS WITH DISCERNMENT AND WISDOM.
Our church leaders at all levels bear a heavy responsibility. Biblical and Spirit-led discernment, wisdom, and urgency are needed in the decisions made each day.
6. THAT GOD WILL DIRECT THE DECISIONS AND ACTIONS OF POLITICAL LEADERS.
Daniel 2:21 states that God “removeth kings, and setteth up kings,” and the history of King Cyrus reveals that God has a purpose for those in positions of power. Pray that our political leaders will be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
7. PRAY THAT GOD WILL PREPARE HIS PEOPLE TO RECEIVE THE LATTER RAIN OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE SEAL OF GOD.
God’s people must be prepared spiritually and intellectually to stand firm against the rapidly approaching storm. Pray for the completion of this work among all church members.
