Scott Michael Bennett is an international Seventh-day Adventist recording artist known for his passionate music expression and deeply moving concerts. Scott is also an affiliate musician for It Is Written Television and has been featured on 3ABN. Scott and his wife Heather and daughters live in Saint Joe, Michigan.
In mid January, Scott was involved in terrible car accident on the way to a concert. His car slipped on black ice and vaulted him into and over a guardrail, at high speed, falling over 15 feet and crashing into a tree. He experienced compound fractures in both legs and had to be life flighted to a hospital. When he was wheeled into the emergency room, he was singing Jesus Loves Me because he was in so much pain.
In his own words,
So in total, I broke my right femur, right tib and fib, broke my left tib/fib and sustained a catastrophic right calf avulsion. Bones were sticking through my suit pants. Today, they removed all of my wound sutures and said I no longer need dressings on my lower leg wounds. This is a wonderful step forward and a direct result of you praying for me. PT begins February 27. I’m longing to get out of this wheelchair but also learning the great art of patience. Right now my doctor is still saying he may need to perform another surgery to bone graft my left tib/fib but it will take 3-4 months to know for sure. If you can pray for something specific, please pray I won’t need that. I’m honestly never ever wanting to go into surgery ever again. But if it’s necessary I’ll do it with a cheerful heart.
On the way here yesterday, we passed by my accident scene for the first time. We stopped and Heather took some photos. They don’t reveal much but there are glow tracts all over the ground where the van was. I guess I scattered them like the leaves of autumn. It was emotional being at the scene again. But really good for us. God is truly good.
A GoFundMe page was set up for Scott in January.
After numerous operations and a prolonged hospital stay, Scott came home today for the first time since the accident. His young daughters were pretty happy to see him. The video is heartwarming, Video
