Andrews University (which admittedly sits on stolen land) released a statement on the Colorado Springs shooting, written by Michael Nixon, the school’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion officer.
The shooting occurred Sunday morning at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
After causing several fatalities, the assailant (Anderson Aldrich) was overcome by an Army veteran who happened to be in the building at the time. He was aided by a trans ‘woman’ who used her high heels to stomp on the assailant.
The 22-year old assailant is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, preferring to be addressed as Mx. Aldrich. The public defenders representing Aldrich said,
"Anderson Aldrich is non-binary." "They use they/them pronouns, and for the purposes of all formal filings, they will be addressed as Mx. Aldrich."
According to New York Post, Aldrich was booked by El Paso County, Colorado police as a male, possibly mis-gendering him.
Fulcrum7 Issues the Following Statement:
The Bible condemns murder in the Sixth Commandment (Exodus 20:13). It condemns wanton violence as an outworking of hatred (Proverbs 3:31; Hosea 4:2; Psalms 11:5; Ephesians 4:31). We condemn it as well.
The Bible directs us to avoid evil-for evil (1 Peter 3:9; Romans 12:17; Proverbs 20:22; Psalms 34) and to forgive those who have wounded or hurt us (Hebrews 12:15; Ephesians 4:32; Matthew 6:14; Colossians 3:13) calling on believers to return good for evil (1 Peter 3:8). Failure to forgive others (bitterness) will result in the forfeiture of God’s forgiveness toward us (Mark 11:26).
The Bible is clear that human sexuality is designed by God to exist exclusively in a marriage between one man and one woman (Genesis 1:26-27; 2:18-24; Hebrews 13:4; Proverbs 5:13-18; Ephesians 5:31-33) providing for human procreation and physical intimacy between the husband and wife (male and female).
Moral deviations such as fornication, homosexuality, adultery and bestiality are condemned as sin in the Bible (Romans 1:24-29; James 4:4; 1 Corinthians 6:9; Galatians 5:19; Colossians 3:5-6; Leviticus 18:24-25; Jude 1:7; Ephesians 5:3) and can be resolved through repentance, confession and forgiveness. Repentance & confession coupled with the love and forgiveness of God breaks the power of moral failure and leads us to forsake sin (John 8:11) and experience moral freedom. This freedom cleanses the heart of the spiritual consequences of moral failure and takes away the guilt, shame and fear associated with moral sin, allowing an individual to experience peace, joy and freedom.
