Graham Hood (Hoody) made national news last September when he recorded a short video about walking away from his 32-year career as a Qantas Airline pilot. The video went viral. Graham is now a sought after speaker in Australia, standing up for freedom in the midst of oppressive social tyranny. In a very short period of time, he has received 30,000 followers on Facebook, and thousands of emails from around the world. Graham is a Seventh-day Adventist, and apparently one with courage and grace.
Since last year, Hoody has spoken to huge crowds in Australia, pointing them to Jesus as the Hope of all mankind. His team has given out over 100,000 SDA books (Great Controversy’s etc) and received countless requests for Bible studies and baptisms. The interest in God is palpable. People want what Hoody has, and he points them to Jesus Christ in most everything he says. He has spoken to crowds of 10,000 and 100,000 in Sydney.
So why would Steve Goods, the Western Australia Conference President try to ban Hoody from speaking in Western Australia? According to Good, “Hoody is divisive and might be connected to right wing groups". That’s the excuse this person is using. It appears to be part of a larger wave of marginalization that is occurring in liberal Adventist territories over the last several years.
According to Adventist church members in Australia, the WA Conference president Steve Good, and Michael Worker, General Secretary of the Australian Union are a big part of the effort to ban Graham Hood from speaking. This is what was sent to us today from a credible member in Australia:
Michael Worker and the Union President all come from Western Australia. They service there. Terry Johnson was President of the Western Australian Conference. He pushed the One Project very hard, and asked all the pastors to support it.
When Terry Johnson was President [of WA] he wanted to vote for same- sex marriage. He was advised not to because it would jeopardise his progression up the SDA corporate ladder. However, both his parents voted openly for same sex marriage. It’s on the record. His mother worked at the Division office.
The church in Australia has experienced negative growth over the last 10+ years. The [leaders] should be fired for lack of performance and certainly poor leadership.
This was sent to us by a member of Hoody’s team,
Graham has been invited to speak at Sunday churches. He has had massive audiences. Fifty percent non church goers go where they hear he is speaking. And he preaches the Adventist truths, including the Fourth Commandment and the soon coming of Jesus. People are joining these churches.
What is the Adventist church doing??? The loud cry is happening. People are coming out.
We sent an email to SPD president Glenn Townhend, asking if he knew that Graham Hood was banned from speaking in Western Australia. His email directed us to contact Torika at the SPD division office. We reached out to her for comment and have not received a reply at the time of this publication.
There is an outbreak of marginalizations (cancel culture) occurring in liberal Adventist territories over the last several years. We believe it is because liberalism uses the same tactics, whether in secular politics or in the Church—sadly.
Pray for the Body of Christ in Australia.
