DOULGASS TWP., Pa. - A Maryland man is in custody, charged with firing over a dozen shots during a religious camp meeting in eastern Berks County.
38-year-old Kern Jordan of Upper Marlboro, Md is charged with terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and firearms offenses.
Just after 8 p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to a Seventh Day Adventist camping event being held at Pine Forge Academy in Douglass Township.
Witnesses told police that a man attending the camp, later identified as Jordan, pulled into the Pine Forge lot in a white Mercedes and began firing into the air before fleeing on Douglass Drive toward Route 422.
Police say the shots caused several hundred people attending the camp to run for cover, hiding behind buildings and trees for their safety. Investigators recovered 14 shell casings from the scene.
Jordan was taken into custody a short time later during a traffic stop in Exeter Township.
An AR-15 rifle and 9mm pistol were allegedly found in his car. Police say he does not have a concealed weapons permit.
Jordan is free after posting $25,000 bail.
He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 17.

"Do not fret because of evildoers, Be not envious toward wrongdoers. For they will wither quickly like the grass And fade like the green herb. Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it" (Psalm 37:1-9).
