GCC Press Release
David Wright, at the invitation of the Georgia-Cumberland Conference (GCC) Executive Committee, has accepted the call to serve as the conference’s Vice President for Pastoral Ministries.
“I am excited to have David joining our GCC team to lead pastors,” says Gary Rustad, conference president. “David loves being a Seventh-day Adventist and sharing the Gospel with others. His relational and organizational skill set will serve him well as he takes up his new role.”
Wright is no stranger to GCC, growing up in the Collegedale area where he attended Collegedale Academy and served as Student Association Pastor and President. He continued his studies at Southern Adventist University, where he also held leadership roles in the men’s dorm, first as a resident assistant, then as student dean. He later earned his Masters of Divinity and Doctorate in Family Ministries from Andrews University.
“Evangelism is something I’ve always tried to make a priority,” says Wright, “and I want to try to continue to encourage that emphasis with our local pastors.”
This passion is evident with Wright conducting or hosting an evangelism series every year. He also has a passion for working with youth and young adults and nurturing healthy families. When it comes to nurturing his own healthy family, David, along with his wife Elizabeth and three children, enjoy traveling and anything that gets them outside, including hiking, camping, canoeing, and snow skiing.
Most recently, Wright has served as the head pastor at the Hendersonville Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hendersonville, NC. Prior to moving to Hendersonville, Wright pastored in GCC for eight years. He fills the position left open when Victor Maddox accepted a call to serve the Southern Union Conference.
“I’m here to serve the local pastor, to facilitate the local pastor, and the local church,“ says Wright, “and I want to do everything I can to help and serve them.”
In our opinion, David is a good choice for this position.
Some Interesting History
Back in 2018, Steven Bohr was invited to speak at the Hendersonville North Carolina SDA Church. The pastor at the time was David Wright.
Carolina Conference Ministerial director Haskell Williams told the Hendersonville church to cancel Elder Bohr's speaking commitment at the Hendersonville Church. When asked why, Williams said that Elder Bohr was divisive because Secrets Unsealed held a symposium on women's ordination in September 2017. The truth is, Williams was WO supporter and HE didn’t want Bohr coming.
When the Carolina Conference President learned of the dis-inviting of Pastor Bohr, he intervened on behalf of Hendersonville SDA and Secrets Unsealed, affirming the latitude of a local church to invite speakers of their choosing, especially those with long standing service to the Seventh-day Adventist Church (like Pastor Bohr).
Bohr was un-canceled and held meetings on February 23-25 2018!
Moral: Canceling speakers because of ecclesiastical politics is nasty business.
