Yesterday, Dr. Ben Carson posted on X the following message:
This is a dark day in American history, and I fear we are not grasping the gravity of the situation. Two assassination attempts in two months. It’s unacceptable.
Your ideals and beliefs should never present a threat to your life in the United States of America.
We are in the midst of a severe moral and spiritual crisis in this nation. This cannot be the society our children and grandchildren inherit.
I am praying that God will give us the fortitude and wisdom to navigate ourselves out of it. I’d ask that all of you join me in those prayers today.
The would-be assassin, Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, had been hiding out in the bushes along the edge of Trump International Golf Club for 12 hours, since 2:00 A.M, waiting for Trump to appear. When Trump was still on the preceding hole, roughly 200 to 400 yards away, a Secret Service agent spotted Routh’s rifle, a modified Kalashnikov of the type used by Ukrainian armed forces, and fired at the sniper’s position. Routh ran and got into his vehicle, but a witness took down the license plate, and Routh was later arrested on the freeway.
How did Routh Know Trump Would be on the Golf Course?
The round of golf was not on Trump’s official schedule, but was a last-minute addition. How did Mr. Routh find out about it? A non-scheduled event has lighter, more ad hoc security, because it is assumed that a would-be assassin would not find out about the activity in time to plan an attack. London's Daily Mail is considering the possibility that Routh was tipped off by a mole within the Secret Service. Mark Steyn writes:
It is now almost a decade since the alphabet-soup agencies began their efforts to subvert Donald Trump (and America's so-called "democracy") by setting up George Papadopoulos in a London wine bar, etc. Is it such a stretch to suggest, on the evidence of the last two months, that elements in the Deep State have now cut to the chase and are trying to kill him?

Ryan Routh was an agitator for the Ukraine war, and spent months in Ukraine working to bring Afghans to Ukraine to fight the Russians. On Twitter, he implored President Joe Biden to “send every weapon we have to Ukraine” and offered Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky advice on military strategy. But in a recent interview he acknowledged that he had not secured a single visa for an Afghan volunteer, and one Ukrainian officer said Routh’s ideas seemed “delusional.”
The number killed in the Russia-Ukraine conflict is a closely guarded secret, with both sides offering only propaganda, but it is likely in the hundreds of thousands; casualties including wounded probably exceed one million. President Trump has promised to force a peace settlement on the combatants as soon as he wins the November election. This has created enmity between Trump and partisans of pointless loss of life, such as Ryan Routh; Routh wrote a book about the Ukraine war in which he calls President Trump an “idiot,” a “buffoon” and a “fool.”
Deranged Leftists Act on Claim that Trump “is a Threat to Democracy”
It is also long past time for the American Left to dial down its constant, daily rhetoric that President Trump is a “threat to democracy.” Its less stable and more literal-minded adherents have begun acting to eliminate, by murder, this “threat to democracy.” Of course, President Trump is in no way, shape, or form a threat to democracy as the term “democracy” has heretofore been understood. To continue, on a daily basis, to claim that he is a threat is an example of the propagandistic use of the Big Lie.
All sorts of irony are connected to the Big Lie that Trump is a “threat to Democracy.” First, the claim is intended to incite murder, to incite political violence, and has now incited two (2) attempts to murder President Trump. The first attempt wounded President Trump and two others, and killed retired fire fighter Corey Comperatore. This daily incitement to political violence, uniformly promoted by all of the Left’s media outlets (the overwhelmingly majority of all media), is itself very much a threat to democracy.
Second, his opponent, Kamala Harris, was not nominated by her party through the normal democratic process; she received zero votes for president in the 2024 presidential primary elections. Instead, the Democratic Party’s big money donors installed her as their candidate in an entirely anti-democratic maneuver, after party insiders like Barack Obama decided to allow it to be revealed, in an unprecedented early debate, that Joe Biden was too senile to serve a first term as president, much less a second. The Kamala Harris candidacy is a symbol of the end of democracy in favor of rule by plutocratic elites.
Third, as Mike Benz has demonstrated, to the global Left, the term “democracy” no longer means government by elected representatives, but rather government by the web of institutions set up in the aftermath of the Second World War to maintain global order—the United Nations, NATO, the European Union, the World Bank the International Monetary Fund, the World Health Organization, etc. When they say he is a “threat to democracy,” the global Left perceives President Trump to be a threat to this web of global institutions, and they are not wrong about that. President Trump wants a discussion of whether some of these institutions have outlived their usefulness, but the profoundly anti-democratic elites who are presently trying to murder him will not allow such a discussion.
