In a space of no more than 8 hours, two separate nations issued rulings on homosexual marriage. One for, and the other against.
Yesterday, on November 30, the United States Senate passed the (dis) Respect for Marriage Act with huge protection for homosexual marriage and ambiguous protection for religious liberty. Now it gets sent to the House of Representatives where it is extremely likely to pass a Democrat-controlled Congress.
Yesterday, the Tokyo District Court rejected the argument by plaintiffs that the Japanese legislation, which only recognizes marriages between a man and a woman, violates the constitutional equality provisions. The basic law’s article on freedom of marriage requires matrimony to be based “on the mutual consent of both sexes,” the court noted.
Summary
American liberals vote to support gay marriage.
Japanese lawmakers vote that gay marriage is unconstitutional.
Are we living in a crazy mixed up muddled up messed up alternative universe?
