UK—A Methodist Bible college in Britain fired a theology professor for tweeting that 'homosexuality is invading the church.' They also threatened to report him as a potential terrorist for his tweet.
Dr. Aaron Edwards, 37, was sacked from Cliff College, Derbyshire, after he was found to have brought it 'into disrepute' following a social media post. Here’s his tweet.
Dr. Edwards said the tweet was directed at evangelicals who agree with his views, but say they cannot say so publicly due to the fear of reprisal.
The initial tweet went viral and sparked a widespread debate as the pro LGBTQ torch mob came for him.
Cliff College, where he had worked for seven years, describes itself as providing 'theological education and training with a particular focus on mission and evangelism'.
Dr Edwards said he was contacted by the college after bosses were made aware of his tweet. He was asked to remove the post after being told it breached a staff social media policy.
But Dr. Edwards refused, saying that doing so would go against his conscience and provide an admission that he had posted the tweet to be provocative when it is actually a belief. He was fired.
The father-of-five, who now refers to himself as a 'cancelled Christian lecturer', said he has subsequently been informed he could be referred to the government-led counter-terror counter-extremism program Prevent. All for voicing a biblical opinion on sexuality???!!
Our Commentary
The reason Pride flags are so prevalent in American society is that every conquering army raises its banner to signal victory over its opponents.
The final territory to be conquered in Pride’s long march through the institutions is the church. It goes without saying that many churches have already abandoned biblical teaching on matters of sex, sexuality, and gender identity. We must not follow them.
“Internal corruption will bring the denunciations of God upon this people as it did upon Jerusalem. Oh, let pleading voices, let earnest prayer be heard, that those who preach to others shall not themselves be castaways. My brethren, we know not what is before us, and our only safety is in following the Light of the world. God will work with us and for us if the sins which brought His wrath upon the old world, upon Sodom and Gomorrah and upon ancient Jerusalem, do not become our crime.” (Manuscript Releases, vol. 12, 319–326).
The Seventh-day Adventist church's reason for existence makes sense only as we present to the word a different message than they are hearing from the dominant culture.
