Kumawood is a privately owned movie and awards industry that is based in Kumasi, Ghana.
Popular Kumawood actress and producer, Ellen Kyei White has finally opened up on why as a staunch generational Adventist she abandoned the Seventh-day Adventist Church last year.
According to the Kumawood star, she left the Seventh Day Adventist Church simply because she could not do away with wearing earrings as the church demands.
Ellen White explained that although she was used to not wearing earrings, she found the love for it when she joined the movie industry and was asked to wear earrings on set.
“If you are acting in movies they want you to wear earrings and now I am unable to stop,” Ellen Kyei White explained.
She said she had no choice but to bow out of the church since she can’t follow the doctrines.
She, however, added that the SDA church is the kind of church you miss and have the feeling for even when you quit, so she might one day go back to the church. She just has to learn how to live without earrings.
“I have stopped but it is a church that if you stop, you still have some feeling for it so I will love to go back but the how to stop wearing the earring is my problem,” Ellen White said.
Our Commentary
Leaving the Seventh-day Adventist because of our biblical stance on adornment is a mixture of honesty and spiritual tragedy. It’s honest when a person acknowledges that their lifestyle choices are incompatible with the biblical principles of the Church they belong to, and separates themselves from the Church. This is the honorable thing to do, and can lead to repentance and restoration with the Church later on. This woman has done the right thing. For now.
It’s tragic when the lust of the flesh and the pride of life overwhelms walking after the Spirit in a person’s life (1 John 2:16; Galatians 5:16). Inner beauty gives way to it’s empty counterfeit, cupidity, and seeks external adornment to cover the emptiness inside.
Acting in general and Hollywood in particular, is a very difficult profession for a Christian person. It often consumes people, turning virtue into vice, and leaving an empty shell of concupiscence in place of your soul. It’s best avoided altogether, whether participation by acting or participation by purchasing their entertainment.

“For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2:16-17).
